Evaluation and Assessment after Each Action
Evaluation and Assessment after each action: Check
- Respirations: Breathing? Gasping? Not breathing?
- Heart rate?100 BPM?
- Oxygenation: check oximeter and/or color
Low heart rate is the most important decision point. Proceed further if heart rate remains less than 60 beats per minute.
Conversely, if heart rate is greater than 100, resuscitation procedures can stop at block A (warming, positioning airway)
On decision tree, asterix* indicate consideration of endotracheal intubation:
- In block A, consider intubation to suction and remove meconium.
- In block B or C, optimize ventilation and maximize chest compressions.
