ACLS Renewal Online

Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) is an organized system of diagnostic criteria and therapeutic techniques that is used to respond to specific medical emergencies. Certification in ACLS is required for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who work in acute care settings such as ER, ICU, and it is also required for paramedics and other emergency personnel.

Advanced cardiac life support certification is valid for two years. On or before that time you must take a class and renew and renewal of ACLS certification online has become increasingly popular. Traditional classroom-based ACLS renewal offers the same course content, but ACLS renewal online has many advantages.

  • Complexity: ACLS course content is always challenging. There is a large amount of complex material to learn. The diagnostic criteria and therapeutic techniques apply to medical emergencies that are not unusual but not regular occurrences. An online course allows you time to study and review that is not available in the traditional classroom.

  • Changes: The ACLS guidelines were first published in 1974, revisions have been issued in 1980, 1986, 1992, 2000, 2005, and 2010, and each revision has changes. Some times the changes are significant, such as the 2010 emphasis on chest compressions versus rescue breathing when performing CPR, and other times the changes are minor. People learn ACLS by rote and once you have memorized the ACLS patterns it can be hard to learn new ones, so assimilating these changes is a challenge. With ACLS online renewal the student has a lot of opportunity – much more than is available in a classroom – to learn the new ACLS the best possible way: repetition, repetition, repetition.

  • Comprehensive: Any ACLS renewal class will include all the information that is current and that you need to know: the classes are comprehensive. But it is almost certain that some classroom-based ACLES renewals will spend more time on one particular subject and less on another. Most will spend an equal amount of time on all the topics. But it would be unusual for an ACLS student to be equally comfortable with every part of ACLS, and it would just be luck if you took an ACLS renewal class that happened to focus on your area of need. If you want to successfully renew your ACLS certification, an online ACLS renewal allows you to be comprehensive in your learning in a way that fits your needs.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support renewal is challenging, but with the proper type and the proper amount of studying, most students will pass. The certification is required, the information is vital to know, and preparing for renewal takes time. Students should use every advantage possible: an online ACLS renewal class can be an excellent resource.
