About Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland is located in Ohio in the central United States. It is part of the Greater Cleveland area which is the largest metropolitan area in Ohio. It is the second most populous city in the state of Ohio with a population of 478,403. The metropolitan area is the 14th largest in the United States with a population of 2,945,831. Nicknames of the city include the “Sixth City”, "The Rock 'n' Roll Capital of the World", and "C-Town." The Economist ranked Cleveland number one as the most livable city in America. It was also ranked as the best city for business meetings in the United States.

Cleveland’s population was 914,000 in 1950 and it has declined to less than half of that today. Suburbanization caused the city to lose its population in the 1960s and 1970s and financial difficulties have plagued the city since then. However, Cleveland has made large strides with their downtown revitalization project. At the current moment, Cleveland has some developed and economically well off areas and other areas are in need of higher quality public education and more funding for improvement.

Cleveland has a humid continental climate that is similar to much of the central United States. Summers are warm and humid and winters are cold and snowy. Heavy snow is common due to the proximity of Lake Eric. July is the hottest month and January is the coldest month.

Cleveland has a number of professional sports teams including the Cleveland Indians (MLB), the Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA), the Cleveland Gladiators (Arena Football League), the Cleveland Browns (NFL), and a potential professional soccer team. The headquarters of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) has its headquarters in Cleveland and it hosts an annual college tournament in the city in Quicken Loans Arena. The event is in the top 10 of basketball tournaments in terms of attendance because of the large number of MAC alumni that live in the area.

There are also several universities in Cleveland such as Cleveland State University, Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. Cleveland also has an international airport, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, and a seaport, the Port of Cleveland. Cleveland also had the first airport to downtown rapid transit system in North America.

Cleveland is known for being a great business city, a top sports town, and for being one of the most livable cities in the nation.
