| Colorado Springs, Colorado Colorado Springs is the most populous city of El Paso County, Colorado with a population of 380,307. The city is about one mile above sea level with a varying altitude throughout the city. However, recently Colorado Springs has suffered economically due to a lack of tourism which the city depends heavily upon. The climate of Colorado Springs is a semi-arid climate with 17.4 inches of annual precipitation per year. It is one of the most active lighting strike locations in the country. Colorado Springs has mild winters although one might expect it to have colder winters. There are not very many long snowing spells and sub-zero temperatures are not common. The city thrives off of tourism and tourism is Colorado Springs’ third largest business. Some of the top attractions in the city of Colorado Springs include the Downtown, Old Colorado City, Memorial Park, and others. Colorado Springs has several locations for outdoors sports that are popular such as snowboarding and skiing. Michael Garman was a story telling sculptor. Also, the Garden of the Gods is a park with large red sandstone formations. Pike’s Peak is another top attraction. It is one of Colorado’s 54 14,000 feet or taller mountains. The total height is 14,115. It features an annual race called the Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb. The Hill Climb is a race run on a course on Pike’s Peak that starts at 9,390 feet and finishes at the summit of 14,110 feet. The race is difficult because of the low oxygen concentration of the air at the summit which makes engines work harder. |
