Fort Worth is located in East central Texas right next door to Dallas. Because of its close proximity to Dallas, Arlington and Plano, there are many medical facilities available within a close range of one another. Fort Worth, Texas

Fort Worth is the fifth largest city in the state of Texas with a population of 703,073. It is the economic center of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. Fort Worth is located in Tarrant County. The city is known as a gateway to the American West and it has been known as “Where the West Begins. ” Fort Worth has several renovated historic areas and is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country. By 2030, the population is estimated to increase to 826,665 residents. Fort Worth was the fastest growing city in America from 2000-2006 and was rated one of “American’s Most Livable Communities. ”

The economy of Fort Worth is historically based on manufacturing and it has shown economic growth since the 1980s. Some of the major employers include American Airlines, Radio Shack, Lockheed Martin, Pier 1, Burlington North Santa Fe and other companies. The major industries in Fort Worth include manufacturing, communications, financial and banking services, and semiconductor manufacturing. Fort Worth also has 7-8 million tourists per year who spend over a billion dollars in the city.

The climate of Fort Worth is humid subtropical with hot summers and mild winters. Average precipitation is 34.01 inches per year. The wettest month of the year is May and the driest month is January. Temperatures in Fort Worth average 97 F in July, the hottest month of the year. Fort Worth was struck by an F3 tornado on March 28, 2000 which was the first major tornado to hit Fort Worth.

Tourism is popular with several attractions located within or around the Fort Worth area. The Stockyards National Historic District is a large historic district with rodeos, saloons, and shops. The Fort Worth herd, a group of longhorn steer, are driven twice per day by cowhands down Exchange Avenue. The Van Zandt Cottage is a historic Victorian mansion that tourists can walk through.

There are 32 miles of trails for walking or biking on Trinity Trail. The Fort Worth Zoo is a popular destination with 5,000 animals and several unique exhibits. The Log Cabin Village has restored cabins from the 1800s and live pioneer reenactments. The Fort Worth Botanic Garden has acres of plants and a Japanese garden. Six Flags over Texas is a popular amusement park.

The Fort Worth community supports the local performing arts, and there are numerous art and performance events in the city. The Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall is the home of the Fort Worth Symphony, the Fort Worth Opera, and the Texas Ballet Theater. Fort Worth with its numerous live performances, tourist attractions, and historic sites is a great city for recreation and to visit.
