Omaha is the largest city in Nebraska and has a population of 438,646. Within 50 miles of the city’s center the total population is around 1.2 million. Omaha is a major business, financial, corporate, and industrial center. The economy is ranked eighth among the nation’s 50 largest cities in number of per-capita billionaires and Fortune 500 companies.

Omaha is known for being the home of Warren Buffet who is one of the richest people in the world. His company, Berkshire Hathaway, is headquartered in Omaha. Other companies such as ConAgra Foods, Union Pacific Railroad, Mutual of Omaha, and Kiewit Corporation are based out of Omaha and are Fortune 500 companies.

Omaha has a continental climate with warm summers, dry winters and an average of 32 inches of snowfall during the winter. Winter days have sunshine 50% of the time and summer days have sunshine 75% of the time. July averages 76.7 F with high humidity and several thunderstorms that are often violent. Omaha is also subject to tornadoes. Average yearly precipitation is 30.2 inches and most of the precipitation occurs during the summer.

Omaha’s most popular tourist attractions include the Henry Doorly Zoo, which is Nebraska’s number one paid attraction and has 25 million visitors per year, and the College World Series. The zoo features several unique exhibits such as the world's largest nocturnal exhibit, the largest cat complex in North America, the largest indoor rainforest, and the largest geodesic dome in the world. The College World Series features the best Division I college baseball teams and is held in Omaha in June annually.

Omaha also has numerous historical and cultural attractions such as the Omaha Community Playhouse, the largest community theater in the United States. The Omaha Symphony Orchestra is one of the city’s top performing arts attractions. They play at the Holland Performing Arts Center. Other performing groups include the Omaha Opera who performs at the Orpheum Theater and the Blue Barn Theater. The Omaha Children’s Museum has interactive exhibits in which children can learn about science and technology through play.

Omaha also features a downtown historical district with shops, restaurants, bars, and art galleries. The district was listed on the National Register of Historical Places Today. The Omaha Botanical Gardens has 100 acres and a multitude of types of landscaping.

Although it may not seem so at first glance, Omaha is a diverse city with several quality live performances, great visual arts and historic venues, and excellent business and job opportunities.
