Online BLS Recertification

Basic life support (BLS) is required for all health care professionals. The information taught in a BLS class – CPR, knowing how to recognize medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction, and stroke, helping someone who is choking, using an AED  – is essential for any physician, nurse, respiratory therapist, etc. that will or may have direct patient contact.

Certification in BLS is given after taking a BLS class, passing the written test, and passing the skills exam. The certification is valid for two years, and then you need to take a recertification class. These classes cover the same material as a BLS introductory class but they are (usually) a bit shorter.

Once your BLS certification has expired, you must take a recertification course: every hospital, healthcare facility, clinic, etc. insists that all employees who provide patient care have BLS certification, so you need to find a class. But there is a choice available to you: online BLS recertification.

Online BLS recertification classes are identical to traditional classroom-based BLS recertification classes. The topics, material, and the certification are the same, and there is essentially no cost difference between online recertification and classroom-based recertification.  But there are some significant advantages to online classes.

Traditional classroom-based courses may be convenient in terms of time and place, but they may not. • Learning the material: Most healthcare professionals, most of the time, don’t use BLS in a normal working day. It is difficult to be proficient at skills that are rarely practiced or used, but knowing CPR, rescuing someone who is choking, etc. is obviously very important to know and to know how to do correctly. As a professional, you can give yourself the best opportunity for learning BLS by studying and practicing in the way that is best for you. This is easy to do with an online course: it is not easy to do with a classroom-based course.

• Getting the recertification: All BLS courses – introductory, recertification, classroom-based, online – require students work hard. When you take a recertification class you will be spending your time, effort, and money. Because of the ease of access and the ability to personalize the learning, an online recertification class offers the best chance for mastering the material and passing the test. 

Online BLS recertification courses are widely available. Once you have studied the material and passed the written test, a local BLS instructor can test your knowledge and performance of the practical, hands-on skills and issue your recertification. Taking BLS recertification online is easy, simple, and convenient, and definitely saves time and effort.
