Summers can be warm to hot in temperature. Raleigh has an annual average of 6.8 inches of snowfall in the winter. Springtime temperatures average 59.3 F, winter averages 38.9 F, fall averages 59.7 F, and summer averages 78.1 F. Raleigh is a cultural center for performing arts in North Carolina. The Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek is a major venue for touring acts. The Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, Kennedy Theatre, and the Fletcher Opera Theater are some of the other major venues for performances in Raleigh. The North Carolina Symphony is based out of Raleigh as well. Raleigh has several visual arts buildings with extensive art collections. It is known as the “Smithsonian of the South” and it hosts several art museums. 100,000 artifacts are displayed at the North Carolina Museum of History. The local universities in Raleigh are a source of performance and entertainment events as well.
