Tucson is in close proximity to four mountain ranges: in the north are the Santa Catalina Mountains, to the east are the Rincon Mountains, to the south are the Santa Rita Mountains, and west are the Tucson Mountains. The highest point in the area is Mount Wrightson at 9,453 feet above sea level. Tucson is a popular resort area because of its sunny and dry climate. The city’s economy is dependent on tourism. Other major employers include the aerospace industry, defense industry, biotechnology, optics, environmental technology, software, and electronics industry. The University of Arizona is also another large source of revenue for the city. Tucson has a multicultural heritage. The city’s culture dates back to the pioneer days and it has Native America, Spanish, and European influences. There are several literary and poetry organizations in Tucson such as the Chax Press, a publisher of poetry and the University of Arizona Poetry Center, a leading poetry academic site.
